How to overclock Nvidia cards in Windows Vista - 16/01/2009 by Andrew After recently overlocking my 8400GS under Linux I though I'd see if I'd get the same good results under Vista (32bit, SP1). Downloading Rivatuner v2.22 from Guru3D.com and installing under 32bit Vista gave me no issues and loading up the dated looking Rivatuner went without a hitch. At first glance it may look like the software is from a decade ago, though it is packed full of tuning potential. Sliding the bars to get to the overclock I wanted was easy, though I would have loved a text entry field so I could dictate exactly what number I wanted without fiddling. Selected 'Overclock at startup' works, though causes an User Access Control at boot. No biggie, it's something you can live with if you're needing that overclock. Looks basic, but is powerful. If you're wondering where the overclocking is done - it's here! Easy overclocking :) Using Rivatuner allowed me to get the same overclock as I did under Linux, though with even less effort. If you've got an Nvidia card and you're wanting to do some overclocking (as well as being willing to fry your hardware in the process if things go wrong) then Rivatuner is a decent and free way to do it.
