Blizzard secures 'Diablo 3' domain name - 03/05/2008 by Andrew This doesn't mean that Diablo 3 has been confirmed, though it's a good indication that Blizzard is at the very least considering it. Given that Diablo II was one of the best selling games of all time, Diablo 3 will move quite a few boxes and even more if there were console ports of the game. Looking back at how the Starcraft 2 announcement happened, I don't think we'll hear much about Diablo 3 from Blizzard until there's some screenshots to back it up - though if and when that happens all hell will break loose (pun!). It would be daft of Blizzard not to release Diablo 3 as a MMORPG as they've proved with WoW that this can bring in the big bucks though as WoW is still popular it would be silly for them to release a game that competes directly with another title they own. My guess would be they will wait for WoW's popularity to subside (possibly due to the graphics looking more and more dated) and then announce Diablo 3 the MMORPG. This will immediately impact new WoW sign ups as people won't want to commit to a game at its end of life death spiral - so if this happens expect the game to be released not too long after the announcement (as in months, not years).
