Nintendo Wii

Powered by a 729Mhz PowerPC CPU and a 243Mhz ATI GPU, the Nintendo Wii was first available on the 19th of November 2006. Underpowered compared to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 (and not even doubling the Gamecubes CPU or GPU Mhz) no one would have picked the Wii to take the lead that it did in the seventh generation console battle...unless you had played it. So far it has sold over 20 million consoles.

Wii - Wii MotionPlus - provides more acurate representation of movement
by Andrew on 16/07/2008 8:23:44 PM

Nintendo has announced the Wii MotionPlus, which clips on to the base of the Wii Remote. This little addition promises to add better motion sensing and allows upcoming game titles to use 'true movement' rather than the rather clunky (but still brilliant and ground breaking) motion sensing that the standard remote and nunchuck provides.

Wii - Review: SuperMario Galaxy
by Michael on 5/05/2008 11:57:17 PM

The greatness of Mario continues on the Wii with a highly original new game that is super fun. The concept of each one of the levels being a self contained micro world or galaxy is just another feather in the cap of Nintendo's designers. They continually recreate and evolve existing gaming platforms into intriguing and enjoyable new ones. This game showcases what Nintendo does differently to the other gaming platforms. Whilst others compete for the prettiest looking power sucking graphics with 7.1 sound and as close to real life feel, Nintendo just does old fashioned child like fun.

Wii - Review: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
by Michael on 5/05/2008 8:11:13 PM

The long running and wildly successful Zelda series arrives on the Wii with Twilight princess, allowing you to think of your remote as Link's sword and swing it wildly around, which despite what you might think never becomes old. The absence of this I feel would be the biggest drawback of playing this game on the Gamecube, as although the game looks almost identical, apart from the fact the whole thing is a mirror image, the physical nature of the Wii control makes for some good immersion into being Link.

Wii - Wii Rock Band due on the 22nd of June 2008
by Andrew on 26/03/2008 10:06:50 PM

The ultimate drunk party game is here: Rock Band for the Nintendo Wii. Similar to Guitar Hero, this will be a game + instruments, where you'll play along to prompts on the screen (and I'm not talking about bash shells here for all your uber *nix haxx0rs out there).

Wii - Review: Wii Sports
by Michael on 25/03/2008 1:03:28 PM

Wii Sports is the game that lauched the Wii, so basically it is a showcase of the Wii's revolutionary motion tracking control. The game itself is incredibly simple, it is 5 mini games, Boxing, Bowling, Baseball, Golf and Tennis. Each one of these is highly entertaining and a couple even have a bit of longevity. The first thing that really surprises is how instinctive the controls are to use.

Wii - Review: Mii Contest Channel
by Andrew on 3/03/2008 9:50:00 PM

This is a more recent addition to the freebee channels that Nintendo has graced Wii owners. The premise is to create Mii's (that's the people you create on the Wii for though who haven't seen them) that look like something specified (like Mario without his hat) and then submitted to be voted on as well as voting on other people's submissions.

Wii - Review: Everybody Votes Channel

This Wii freebee came in pretty early and was a simple free download for the people that had their Wii hooked up to broadband and who hadn't chipped the living hell out of it. The premise was simple: Ask a question that only has two answers, ask which one you would choose and then ask which one you think the majority would choose. Simply stuff huh?
